Make better use of your resources. Get swift, powerful, fully scalable and cost-effective
computing capacity on demand with Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2, Hyper-V Server
2008 R2 and Xen Hypervisor technology from Digital Housing.
Virtualization technology allows multiple computer operating systems to share the
same hardware. Each instance is known as a virtual machine.
Each virtual machine is securely isolated from other machines, and behaves as
if it was running on standalone hardware. The benefits include better
utilisation of hardware, improved user control and, with Hyper-V, automatic failover.
Virtualization equates to lower cost and improved reliability.
Digital Housing offers three types of Virtualization technology:
Mirosoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1
In conjunction with Windows Server 2003, Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 provides a virtualization
platform that runs most major x86 operating systems in a guest environment, and
is supported by Microsoft as a host for Windows Server operating systems and Windows
Server System applications.
Virtual Server 2005 R2's comprehensive COM API, in combination with the Virtual
Hard Drive (VHD) format and support for virtual networking, provide administrators
complete scripted control of portable, connected virtual machines and enable easy
automation of deployment, and ongoing change and configuration.
Additionally, its integration with a wide variety of existing Microsoft and third-party
management tools allows administrators to seamlessly manage a Virtual Server 2005
R2 SP1 environment with their existing physical server management tools.
Mirosoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2
Microsoft® Hyper-V™ Server 2008 R2 is a stand-alone product that provides a reliable
and optimized virtualization solution enabling organizations to improve server utilization
and reduce costs.
Since Hyper-V Server is a dedicated stand-alone product, which contains only the
Windows Hypervisor, Windows Server driver model and virtualization components, it
provides a small footprint and minimal overhead.
The Digital Housing Hyper-V Server implementation is a full Virtualization platform,
which means that there is a new, separate, install of the operating system for each
instance. Each leveraging any pre-existing patching, provisioning, management, support
tools, processes.
Xen Hypervisor
Digital Housing utilizes the Xen Hypervisor engine to provide Linux, Solaris and
Unix virutal private server environments. Enterprises looking to increase server
utilization, consolidate server farms, reduce complexity, and decrease total cost
of ownership are utilizing server virtualization.
The Xen hypervisor is one of the fastest and secure infrastructure virtualization
solution available today, supporting a wide range of guest operating systems.
With Xen virtualization, a thin software layer known as the Xen hypervisor is inserted
between the server's hardware and the operating system. This provides an abstraction
layer that allows each physical server to run one or more "virtual servers", effectively
decoupling the operating system and its applications from the underlying physical
server.
